Walking to Labruge
Sea Thistles

Honestly they're doing it again, for the third time. Both their memories must be going.... etc etc.

The route may be the same but the journeys are quite different. True, there are handholds on the way, places, we've found that are comfy and good. But, the bits between make it special.

First wayside cross of the day

Today, we left our hotel in Leca da Palmeria. Its an interesting spot, in the unfashionable port which has grown to replace the quaysides in downtown Porto. If you need a customs agent in Portugal, I can now give you an address.

Then straight to the beachfront, turn right, keep going.

Follow the yellow arrows

Like yesterday, it was misty and we walked past the lighthouse before we stopped for breakfast. Ham and cheese toasties and two coffees. A bit dehydrating, but much needed.

Breakfast

After we'd passed Facho, a small fishing spot the sun came out and so did the wildlife.

We were treated to comma and marbled white butterflies; small lizards, both green and brown which scuttled away; skylarks, which tried to lead us from their nests, reed buntings, and a rock bunting, (which just took me 30 min to identify). The animals were too fast to photograph.

Fortunately, the sea thistles were well rooted, and are nicely turning purple as the summer progresses.

Lunch at the one remaining beach-front restaurant was a spag-bol and a the metric equivalent to a pint of Super Bock, which barely touched the sides.

There were two restaurants on the beach in Labruge last year, but a fire took the other in under two hours. Wooden construction.

Cooling the feet or warming the sea?

Now we're showerd, washing is done and we're starting to think about tea. We're staying at Smiling Places in Labruge, an excellent B&B. Like I said, its our third time.
