To Vigo (nearly)

To Vigo (nearly)
A whale at Nigran

It's not that far but it is surprisingly tiring, walking just over 18 k from Biona to Samil 5k short of Vigo our stay for the night.

From the flames of Hell to Heaven

We left our overnight stop and immediately gained views of Baiona across the bay.

Baiona in the distance

It was only 15k, but one climb from a beach in particular could leave you gasping for breath.

Leaving Ramallosa is flat, we walked along the promenades at almost at water level. We stopped in Gaifar for a coffee and a croissant. Carried on to the next bay through suburbs and back to the beach.

This pattern repeats a couple of times and then we leave the seafront for some time with a lemon-sharp climb from the Praia do Portino to the PO-325 road. The initial climb is almost ladder-steep, and it does moderate on the way to the road.

The roundabout we came off is one of those places, where the other turning is not wrong exactly... but not as right as you'd like.

The big temptation is to cross the road and continue forward on the right hand side of the road. We did that last time we we ent to Vigo from the south. Our hotel was in Vigo near the sea. That route took about 2 hours of flogging through urban sprawl.

Art near Samil

Today, were staying short of Vigo in Samil, the city's beach resort. We took the forward to the left fork.

This was much better.

Closing in on Samil

After a couple of km on the road, we passed a soccer pitch and came out into a road which took us past a bunch of fancy houses fronting the sea.

We stopped for a Fanta and bottle of water and arrived in Samil at about 2pm.

Tomorrow we plan to take the train to A Coruña and spend a couple of days on the North Coast, while we work out what to do next...
