Aveiro, definitely worth a look
A couple of days was more than enough to see this lovely little town. But, there's definitely scope for a beach holiday.
The town has an Art Nouveau trail, and an art nouveau museum.

The cathedral is not large. But it has some great objects including this Madonna and child. And it is clearly a well-used and well-loved space.

The beach is a €15 cab ride from the town or about 40 min on the bus.

There are two settlements on a spit of land separated from the rest of the country by the estuary of the river Vouga. This has salt marshes, salt pans and a working port complex.

When the tide was out we saw flamingos on our way to the lighthouse in Barra.

The board walk is impressive and it runs from Barra to Costa Nova. Well it does until the sea and the beach decide otherwise.
So we gave up and walked back along the beach watching two tugs manoeuvre a ship into port.

The surf schools were doing good business too. We walked along the breakwater to the end, came back and had lunch.

This was one of the most suitable lunches I've had for some time. A hot steak, ham, egg and fried onion sandwich. Washed down with Fanta. We drink a lot of that.
Then back to town for a quiet afternoon.
